The borough is situated in the Susquehanna Valley, approximately 10 miles northwest of Harrisburg, the state capital. It is bordered by East Hanover Township to the north, West Hanover Township to the east, and Halifax Township to the south and west.
The borough is served by Pennsylvania Route 225, which runs through the center of town. The closest major highway is Interstate 81, which is located approximately 10 miles to the east.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile. There were 809 housing units at an average density of 1,155.7 per square mile. The racial makeup of the borough was 97.2% White, 0.9% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races.
