Guilford Summary

Guilford, Pennsylvania is a small borough located in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the Cumberland Valley, which is part of the Great Appalachian Valley. The borough is located approximately 10 miles south of Chambersburg and is part of the Chambersburg-Waynesboro Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Guilford was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Guilford is located at 39°48'45" North, 77°41'45" West (39.812500, -77.695833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
The borough is located in the Cumberland Valley, which is part of the Great Appalachian Valley. The valley is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the Allegheny Mountains to the west. The valley is drained by the Conococheague Creek, which flows through the borough.

Economy

The economy of Guilford is largely based on agriculture and light manufacturing. The borough is home to several small businesses, including a feed mill, a sawmill, and a furniture factory. The borough also has a number of retail stores, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a pharmacy.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 3,072.2 people per square mile (1,186.3/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 1,337.3 per square mile (516.7/km2).
