Glen Lyon Summary

Glen Lyon is a small borough located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the Wyoming Valley, a region of the Northeastern United States. The borough is located approximately 10 miles south of Wilkes-Barre, the county seat. As of the 2010 census, the population of Glen Lyon was 1,093.

History

Glen Lyon was first settled in the late 1700s by Welsh immigrants. The town was originally known as “Glen Lyon” after the nearby river. The name was changed to “Glen Lyon” in 1845. The town was incorporated as a borough in 1876.
The town was an important coal mining center in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The coal industry was the primary source of employment for the town’s residents. The coal mines were eventually closed in the 1950s, leading to a decline in the town’s population.

Geography

Glen Lyon is located at 41°14'N 75°51'W (41.23, -75.85). It is situated in the Wyoming Valley, a region of the Northeastern United States. The borough is located approximately 10 miles south of Wilkes-Barre, the county seat.
