History

Georgetown Cdp was first settled in the late 1700s by a group of Welsh immigrants. The area was originally known as “Georgetown” and was part of the larger township of Exeter. In 1809, the area was officially incorporated as a borough. The borough was named after George Washington, who had visited the area in 1791.
Georgetown Cdp was an important center of industry in the 19th century. The area was home to several coal mines, as well as a number of factories and mills. The borough was also home to a number of churches, schools, and other businesses.
