Geneva Summary

Geneva is a borough located in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Geneva was founded in 1802 by a group of settlers from Geneva, New York. The town was named after the city in Switzerland, and was incorporated as a borough in 1868.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Geneva is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, and a few restaurants. The borough also has a few manufacturing companies, including a steel mill and a plastics factory.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,945 people, 790 households, and 545 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,817.2 people per square mile (1,092.2/km2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 1,223.2 per square mile (472.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.44% White, 0.82% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.82% of the population.
There were 790 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.3% were non-families. 28.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.01.
In the borough the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $33,750, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $17,845.
