Fox Chase Summary

Fox Chase is a small, suburban neighborhood located in the northeast section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is bordered by the city of Philadelphia to the south, the borough of Rockledge to the east, and the townships of Abington and Lower Moreland to the north and west, respectively. The neighborhood is home to a diverse population of approximately 8,000 people, and is known for its historic homes, tree-lined streets, and small-town charm.

History

Fox Chase was originally part of the township of Moreland, which was established in 1682. The area was first settled by Europeans in the late 17th century, and was known as Fox Chase Farm. The farm was owned by the Fox family, who were Quakers from England. The family built a stone house on the property in 1705, which still stands today and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In the late 19th century, the area began to develop as a residential neighborhood. The Fox Chase Railroad was built in 1877, connecting the area to Philadelphia and providing easy access to the city. The railroad also spurred the development of the Fox Chase business district, which included a post office, a bank, a hotel, and several stores.
In the early 20th century, the area continued to grow and develop. The Fox Chase Library was established in 1910, and the Fox Chase Cancer Center was founded in 1912. The neighborhood was annexed by the city of Philadelphia in 1927.

Fox Chase is located in the northeast section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
