Foot of Ten Summary

Foot of Ten is an unincorporated community located in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southwestern corner of the county, near the border with West Virginia. The community is located along the banks of the Monongahela River, and is part of the Morgantown, West Virginia metropolitan area.

History

The area that is now Foot of Ten was first settled in the late 1700s by German immigrants. The community was originally known as “Fuss of Ten”, which is German for “foot of ten”. The name was derived from the fact that the community was located at the foot of a ten-mile stretch of the Monongahela River.
The community was officially established in 1820, when the first post office was opened. The post office was named “Foot of Ten”, and the name of the community was changed to match.

Geography

Foot of Ten is located in southwestern Fayette County, near the border with West Virginia. It is situated along the banks of the Monongahela River, and is part of the Morgantown, West Virginia metropolitan area.
The community is located at an elevation of 890 feet (271 m). The climate is humid continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The average annual temperature is 52.3°F (11.3°C), and the average annual precipitation is 40.3 inches (102 cm).

Economy

The economy of Foot of Ten is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The community is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay.
The community is also home to several tourist attractions, including the Foot of Ten Historical Society Museum, the Foot of Ten Nature Center, and the Foot of Ten Wildlife Refuge. These attractions draw visitors from all over the region, and help to support the local economy.
