Fernville is a small borough located in Berks County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state, about 25 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The population of Fernville was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Fernville was founded in 1790 by John Fern, a German immigrant. The town was originally known as Fern's Village, but the name was changed to Fernville in 1845. The town was incorporated in 1851.
Fernville was a small farming community until the late 19th century, when the Reading Railroad was built through the area. This brought an influx of new residents and businesses to the area, and Fernville began to grow.

Geography

Fernville is located at 40°20'N 75°45'W. It is situated in the southeastern part of Berks County, about 25 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The borough is bordered by the boroughs of Boyertown to the north, Fleetwood to the east, and Oley to the south. The borough is also bordered by the townships of Colebrookdale to the west and Rockland to the northwest.
The terrain of Fernville is mostly flat, with some rolling hills. The borough is located in the Schuylkill River watershed. The Schuylkill River forms the western boundary of the borough.

Economy

Fernville's economy is largely based on agriculture and light manufacturing. The borough is home to several small businesses, including a bakery, a hardware store, and a furniture store.
