Farmersville Summary
Farmersville is a small borough located in western Pennsylvania, in the county of Beaver. It is situated in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, approximately 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The borough has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is part of the Greater Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area.
History
The area that is now Farmersville was first settled in the late 1700s by a group of German immigrants. The town was originally known as “Friedensburg”, which translates to “Peace Town” in English. The town was renamed to Farmersville in 1817, in honor of the many farmers who had settled in the area.
In the early 1800s, the town was a major stop on the Pittsburgh-Cleveland stagecoach line. The stagecoach line was a major factor in the growth of the town, as it allowed for the transportation of goods and people between the two cities.
In the late 1800s, the town was home to several coal mines, which provided employment for many of the town’s residents. The coal mines were eventually closed in the early 1900s, and the town’s economy shifted to focus on agriculture.
