The town was named after the Garden of Eden, and the settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The town quickly grew and by the late 19th century, it had become a thriving industrial center. The town was home to several factories, including a glassworks, a tannery, and a brickyard.
In the early 20th century, the town experienced a period of decline as the local industries began to close. However, the town was revitalized in the 1950s when the Pennsylvania Turnpike was built through the area. This brought new businesses and jobs to the area, and the town began to grow again.
