History
The area that is now Duboistown was first settled in the late 1700s by German immigrants. The town was originally known as “Dubs”, after the family of John Dubois, who was one of the first settlers. The town was officially incorporated as Duboistown in 1876.
In the late 1800s, Duboistown was a thriving industrial center. The town was home to several factories, including a paper mill, a tannery, and a sawmill. The paper mill was the largest employer in the area, and it provided jobs for many of the town’s residents.
In the early 1900s, Duboistown began to decline as the factories closed and the population began to decline. The town was hit hard by the Great Depression, and many of the town’s residents moved away in search of work.
