Doylestown borough Summary
Doylestown Borough is a borough located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the county seat of Bucks County and is located approximately 25 miles north of Philadelphia. As of the 2010 census, the borough had a population of 8,380.
History
Doylestown Borough was founded in 1818 by William Doyle, a Quaker from Bucks County. The town was originally called Doylestownville, but the name was changed to Doylestown in 1838. The town was incorporated as a borough in 1838.
Doylestown was an important stop on the Underground Railroad, and was home to several prominent abolitionists, including William Still and Lucretia Mott. The town was also the site of the first public library in Bucks County, which was established in 1833.
In the late 19th century, Doylestown became a popular summer resort for wealthy Philadelphians. The town was home to several large estates, including the Mercer Museum, which was built in 1916 by Henry Mercer. The museum houses a collection of artifacts from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Doylestown Borough is located at 40°19'45" North, 75°9'45" West (40.329, -75.163). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 8,380 people, 3,541 households, and 2,092 families residing in the borough. The population density was 6,945.3 people per square mile (2,683.2/km2). There were 3,817 housing units at an average density of 3,093.3 per square mile (1,192.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 90.2% White, 4.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 2.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.7% of the population.
There were 3,541 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% were non-families. 33.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.7 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $54,846, and the median income for a family was $68,945. Males had a median income of $45,844 versus $35,945 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $29,945.
