Dover Borough is a small borough located in York County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southeastern corner of the county, just north of the Susquehanna River. The borough is part of the York-Hanover Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Dover Borough was 2,845.
History
Dover Borough was founded in 1764 by a group of German settlers. The town was originally known as “Dover”, but was later changed to “Dover Borough” in 1814. The town was named after Dover, England, which was the hometown of many of the settlers.
The town was an important stop on the Underground Railroad, and was home to several prominent abolitionists. In 1847, the town was the site of the first public school in York County.
Geography
Dover Borough is located at 40°2'17" North, 76°45'17" West (40.038, -76.755). It is situated in the southeastern corner of York County, just north of the Susquehanna River. The borough is bordered by the townships of Dover, East Manchester, and West Manchester.
The borough has a total area of 0.9 square miles, all of which is land. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills.
Economy
The economy of Dover Borough is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The borough is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
The borough is also home to several large employers, including York County School of Technology, York County Community College, and York County Hospital.

The racial makeup of the borough was 94.3% White, 2.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
