History
Dalton Borough was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from Dalton, Massachusetts. The settlers named the town after their hometown in Massachusetts. The town was incorporated in 1867.
In the late 19th century, Dalton Borough was a thriving industrial center. The town was home to several coal mines, a brickyard, a tannery, and a sawmill. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to the rest of the region.
In the early 20th century, Dalton Borough began to decline as the coal industry declined. The town’s population decreased and many of the businesses closed.
In the late 20th century, Dalton Borough began to experience a resurgence. The town was revitalized with the construction of a new shopping center and the opening of several new businesses.
Geography
Dalton Borough is located at 41°25'17" North, 75°37'45" West (41.4214, -75.6293). It is situated in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains and is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre–Hazleton Metropolitan Statistical Area.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Dalton Borough’s economy is largely based on retail and services. The town is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, shops, and professional services.
The town is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer and a metal fabrication company.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile (1,011.2/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 1,145.7 per square mile (443.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.2% White, 0.9% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 22.2% under the age of 18, 57.2% from 18 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $19,845.
