Cornwall borough Summary
Cornwall Borough is a borough located in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lebanon, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Cornwall Borough was founded in 1737 by a group of German settlers. The borough was named after Cornwall, England. The first settlers were mostly farmers and craftsmen, and the town quickly grew to become a thriving community. The town was incorporated in 1814.
In the 19th century, Cornwall Borough was a major center of industry, with several factories and mills located in the area. The town was also home to a number of churches, schools, and other businesses.
Geography
Cornwall Borough is located at 40°17'45" North, 76°20'45" West (40.295833, -76.345833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Cornwall Borough is home to a number of businesses, including a variety of retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The borough is also home to a number of manufacturing and industrial businesses, including a paper mill, a printing company, and a metal fabrication plant.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 745 families residing in the borough. The population density was 4,072.2 people per square mile (1,571.2/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 1,664.2 per square mile (642.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.45% White, 0.53% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.41% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 26.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the borough the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.7 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $48,750. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $18,945. About 4.2% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
