Colony Park Summary

Colony Park is a census-designated place (CDP) located in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the York-Hanover Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Colony Park was originally part of the land grant given to William Penn in 1681. The area was first settled in the early 1700s by German immigrants. The area was known as “Colony” because of the large number of German settlers who had come to the area. The name was changed to “Colony Park” in the late 1800s when the area was developed as a residential community.

Geography

Colony Park is located at 40°2'25" North, 76°45'17" West (40.040278, -76.754722). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Colony Park is largely based on the service industry. The area is home to a variety of restaurants, retail stores, and other businesses. The area also has a number of manufacturing and industrial businesses.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 817 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,364.2 people per square mile (912.2/km2). There were 1,133 housing units at an average density of 937.2/sq mi (362.3/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.45% White, 0.53% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.21% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.53% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.2% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% were non-families. 22.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $45,938, and the median income for a family was $51,964. Males had a median income of $37,917 versus $25,938 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $20,945. About 4.2% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
