Coal Center Borough is a small borough located in Washington County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southwestern corner of the state, approximately 25 miles south of Pittsburgh. The borough is bordered by the Monongahela River to the north, the Youghiogheny River to the east, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike to the south. History

Coal Center Borough was founded in 1876 by a group of coal miners who had settled in the area. The miners had come to the area to work in the coal mines that had been established in the area in the late 1800s. The miners named the borough after the coal that was mined in the area.
The coal industry was the main source of employment in the area for many years. The coal mines provided jobs for hundreds of people in the area. The coal industry began to decline in the early 1900s, and by the 1950s, most of the coal mines had closed.
