Cherry Tree Borough is a borough located in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indiana, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Cherry Tree Borough was founded in 1876. The borough was named for the cherry trees that grew in the area. The first settlers in the area were of German descent. The first post office was established in 1877.

Cherry Tree Borough is located at 40 37 45 North 79 14 45 West 40 629167 79 245833

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Cherry Tree Borough is largely based on agriculture. The borough is home to several farms, including the Cherry Tree Farm, which produces a variety of fruits and vegetables. The borough also has a few small businesses, including a gas station, a grocery store, and a hardware store.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 305 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,817.3 people per square mile (701.2/km2). There were 463 housing units at an average density of 767.2 per square mile (296.3/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.45% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, and 0.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.09% of the population.
