Bolivar borough Summary

Bolivar Borough is a borough located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southwestern corner of the county, approximately 25 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The borough is bordered by the townships of Sewickley, North Huntingdon, and Rostraver. As of the 2010 census, the population of Bolivar Borough was 1,845.

History

The area that is now Bolivar Borough was first settled in the late 1700s by German and Scotch-Irish immigrants. The town was originally known as “Bolivar Station” and was named after Simón Bolívar, a Venezuelan military and political leader who played a key role in the establishment of several South American countries. The town was officially incorporated as a borough in 1876.
