History
Addison Borough was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Berlin. The settlers named the borough after Addison Township, which was named after Joseph Addison, an English essayist and poet. The borough was incorporated in 1872.
The borough was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it became a center for coal mining. The coal industry was the main source of employment for the borough until the 1950s, when the industry began to decline.
