Woodbury Center Summary

Woodbury Center is a small town located in Litchfield County, Connecticut. It is situated in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and is bordered by the towns of Bethlehem, Roxbury, Southbury, and Washington. The town has a population of approximately 3,000 people and covers an area of approximately 24 square miles.

History

Woodbury Center was first settled in 1737 by a group of settlers from Woodbury, Connecticut. The town was incorporated in 1787 and was named after the original settlement. The town was primarily an agricultural community, with the main crops being corn, wheat, and hay. The town also had several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a paper mill.
In the 19th century, the town began to develop a more industrial economy. The first railroad line was built in 1848, connecting Woodbury Center to Waterbury and Hartford. This allowed for the transportation of goods and people to and from the town. The town also had several factories, including a woolen mill, a paper mill, and a machine shop.

Geography

Woodbury Center is located in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. The town is bordered by the towns of Bethlehem, Roxbury, Southbury, and Washington. The terrain is mostly hilly, with some flat areas in the valleys. The highest point in the town is the summit of Bald Mountain, which has an elevation of 1,717 feet.
