Wallingford Center is a census-designated place (CDP) located in New Haven County, Connecticut. It is situated in the town of Wallingford and is part of the Greater New Haven metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Wallingford Center was 8,845.

Geography

Wallingford Center is located at 41°27'25" North, 72°45'17" West (41.456944, -72.754722). It is situated in the town of Wallingford, which is located in the south-central part of Connecticut. The CDP has a total area of 2.3 square miles, all of which is land.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 8,845 people, 3,717 households, and 2,521 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,845.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the CDP was 91.2% White, 2.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 3.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.3% of the population.
There were 3,717 households, out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.3% were non-families. 26.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.90.
The median age in the CDP was 42.2 years. 21.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25.2% were from 25 to 44; 29.3% were from 45 to 64; and 17.6% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the CDP was 48.2% male and 51.8% female.
