Simsbury Center is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the town of Simsbury, Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 1,945 at the 2010 census.
Geography
Simsbury Center is located at (41.878, -72.817). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
History
Simsbury Center was first settled in 1660 and was incorporated as a town in 1670. It was named after the English town of Simsbury, which was the hometown of the first settlers. The town was originally a farming community, but it later developed into a mill town. The town was home to several mills, including a paper mill, a grist mill, and a saw mill.
In the 19th century, the town became a popular summer resort destination, and many wealthy families built large summer homes in the area. The town also became a popular destination for wealthy New Yorkers who wanted to escape the city during the summer months.
Economy
Simsbury Center is a primarily residential community, with most of its residents commuting to nearby towns and cities for work. The town is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The town is also home to several large employers, including the Simsbury Bank and Trust Company, the Simsbury Public Schools, and the Simsbury Health Care Center.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,945 people, 817 households, and 545 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,619.3 people per square mile (625.2/km2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 699.2 per square mile (270.3/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.44% White, 0.77% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.77% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.36% of the population.
There were 817 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $68,958, and the median income for a family was $81,944. Males had a median income of $51,964 versus $41,250 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $35,945. About 1.2% of families and 2.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.7% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
