Port Hope Summary

History

The small town of Port Hope, Michigan is located in Huron County, in the Thumb region of the state. It is situated on the shores of Lake Huron, and is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. The town was first settled in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York, led by William B. Port. The town was named after Port, and was originally known as Port’s Hope.
The town grew quickly, and by the mid-1800s, it had become a bustling port town. It was a major hub for the lumber industry, and the town’s economy was largely based on the lumber trade. The town also had a thriving fishing industry, and was home to several canneries.
