Woodlawn Cdp is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Baltimore County, Maryland. It is located in the northern part of the county, just south of the city of Baltimore. The population of Woodlawn Cdp was 24,919 at the 2010 census.

History

Woodlawn Cdp was first settled in the late 1700s by German and Irish immigrants. The area was originally known as “Woodlawn” and was part of Baltimore County. In the early 1800s, the area was annexed by the City of Baltimore and became part of the city. In the late 1800s, the area was annexed back to Baltimore County and became known as Woodlawn Cdp.
The area was largely rural until the 1950s, when the construction of the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (I-295) brought rapid development to the area. The area was further developed in the 1960s and 1970s with the construction of the Social Security Administration headquarters and the Woodlawn Shopping Center.

Geography

Woodlawn Cdp is located in northern Baltimore County, just south of the city of Baltimore. It is bordered to the north by the city of Baltimore, to the east by the city of Towson, to the south by the city of Catonsville, and to the west by the city of Randallstown. The total area of Woodlawn Cdp is 4.3 square miles.
The terrain of Woodlawn Cdp is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the northern part of the CDP. The area is mostly residential, with some commercial and industrial development in the northern part of the CDP.

Economy

The economy of Woodlawn Cdp is largely based on the service industry. The largest employers in the area are the Social Security Administration, the Woodlawn Shopping Center, and the University of Maryland Medical Center. Other major employers in the area include the Baltimore County Public Schools, the Baltimore County Government, and the Baltimore County Police Department.

As of the 2010 census, the population of Woodlawn Cdp was 24,919. The racial makeup of the CDP was 57.3% White, 33.2% African American, 0.5% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 3.7% from other races, and 2.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
