Timberville is a town located in Rockingham County, Virginia, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Harrisonburg Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Timberville was founded in 1832 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The town was named for the abundance of timber in the area. The first post office was established in 1837. The town was incorporated in 1891.

There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.09.
