History

Montclair was first settled in the late 1700s by a group of Quakers from Pennsylvania. The area was originally known as “Quaker Valley” and was part of the larger Occoquan District. In 1810, the area was renamed “Montclair” after a local landowner, William Montague. The area remained largely rural until the 1950s, when the population began to grow rapidly due to the expansion of the Washington metropolitan area.

Geography

Montclair is located in Prince William County, Virginia. It is situated in the eastern part of the county, approximately 25 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. The area is bordered by the Occoquan River to the north and the Bull Run Mountains to the south. The terrain is mostly rolling hills and wooded areas.
