History
The area that is now Capron was first settled in the early 1700s by English colonists. The town was originally known as “Capron’s Crossroads”, named after the Capron family who owned the land. The town was officially incorporated in 1872, and the name was changed to Capron.
During the Civil War, Capron was the site of several battles, including the Battle of Capron’s Crossroads. The town was also the site of a Confederate prison camp, where Union soldiers were held captive.
