Lynchburg City, Virginia is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the central part of the state. It is the county seat of Campbell County and is the fifth largest city in the state. History
The area that is now Lynchburg City was first settled in 1757 by John Lynch, who established a ferry service across the James River. The city was officially established in 1786 and was named after Lynch. During the American Revolution, Lynchburg served as a supply depot for the Continental Army.
