Geography

Meadowbrook is located at 38°51'17" North, 77°17'45" West (38.854722, -77.295833). It is bordered by the city of Fairfax to the north, the city of Falls Church to the east, the city of Vienna to the south, and the city of Oakton to the west. The total area of Meadowbrook is 4.3 square miles, all of which is land.

Economy

Meadowbrook is primarily a residential community, with most of its residents employed in the nearby cities of Fairfax, Falls Church, Vienna, and Oakton. The largest employers in the area are the Fairfax County Public Schools, the Fairfax County Government, and the Inova Health System.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, the population of Meadowbrook was 8,845. The racial makeup of the CDP was 79.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 8.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.2% of the population.
The median household income in Meadowbrook was $107,917 in 2010, compared to the median income of $107,817 for the entire county. The median age of the population was 40.3 years.

History

Meadowbrook was first settled in the late 1700s by a group of Quakers from Pennsylvania. The area was originally known as "Meadow Brook" and was part of the Fairfax County plantation of William Fairfax. In the early 1800s, the area was divided into several small farms and the community began to grow.
In the late 1800s, the area was known as "Meadowbrook Station" and was a stop on the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad. The railroad line was eventually abandoned in 1968 and the area was renamed "Meadowbrook".
In the early 1900s, the area was developed as a residential community. The Meadowbrook Shopping Center was built in the 1950s and the Meadowbrook Woods subdivision was built in the 1960s. The area has continued to grow and develop since then, and today it is a thriving residential community.
