Waldron Summary
Waldron is a small town located in Shelby County, Indiana, United States. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 40 miles southeast of Indianapolis. The population of Waldron was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
Waldron was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after a local creek, which was named after a Revolutionary War soldier, William Waldron. The town was incorporated in 1853.
In the late 19th century, Waldron was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a woolen mill. The town also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office.
In the early 20th century, the town began to decline as the agricultural industry shifted away from the area. The mills and other businesses closed, and the population began to decline.
