History
Saltillo was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the Mexican city of Saltillo, which was the birthplace of one of the settlers. The town was originally a farming community, and the settlers grew corn, wheat, and other crops. The town also had a sawmill and a gristmill.
