History

The town of Orleans was founded in 1815 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was named after the city of Orleans in France. The first post office was established in 1817. The first courthouse was built in 1820.
In 1837, the town was incorporated as a town. The first railroad line was built in 1854, connecting Orleans to French Lick. The town was a major stop on the railroad line, and it became a popular destination for travelers.
