Orestes Summary

Orestes is a small town located in Madison County, Indiana, United States. It is situated along the banks of the White River, approximately 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis. The town was founded in 1837 and has a population of approximately 1,000 people.

History

Orestes was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after Orestes, the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra in Greek mythology. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for industry. In 1851, the first railroad line was built through Orestes, connecting it to Indianapolis. This allowed the town to become a major shipping hub for the surrounding area.
In the late 19th century, Orestes was home to several factories, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory. The town also had a number of stores, including a general store, a drug store, and a hardware store.
In the early 20th century, Orestes experienced a period of growth. The town was home to several churches, a bank, a post office, and a movie theater. The town also had a number of schools, including a high school, a grade school, and a business college.
