History

North Salem, Indiana is a small town located in Hendricks County, Indiana. It is located approximately 25 miles west of Indianapolis and is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from North Salem, New York. The town was originally known as Salem, but the name was changed to North Salem in 1845 to avoid confusion with another town in the area.
The town was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it began to develop into a small industrial center. The town was home to several factories, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.
