History
Bloomingdale was founded in 1837 by William and Mary Ann (Hendricks) Smith. The town was named after the Smiths' hometown of Bloomingdale, Ohio. The first post office was established in 1838. The town was incorporated in 1867.
Geography
Bloomingdale is located at 39°45'25" North, 87°17'45" West (39.756944, -87.295833). According to the 2010 census, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.
Economy
The economy of Bloomingdale is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 305 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,817.2 people per square mile (701.2/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 776.2 per square mile (299.7/km2).
