Noble Summary
Noble is a city located in Cleveland County, Oklahoma, United States. It is part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 11,561 at the 2010 census, an increase of 28.2 percent from 8,945 at the 2000 census.
Geography
Noble is located at (35.1745, -97.3717). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.3 square miles (21.5 km2), all land.
History
Noble was founded in 1891 by the Noble family, who were among the first settlers in the area. The town was named after the family's patriarch, William Noble. The town was incorporated in 1901.
Economy
The economy of Noble is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several large employers, including Noble Plastics, Inc., a plastics manufacturer, and Noble Foods, Inc., a food processing plant. The city also has a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,945 people, 3,521 households, and 2,521 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,072.2 people per square mile (414.3/km2). There were 3,845 housing units at an average density of 462.2 per square mile (178.5/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 81.2% White, 4.2% African American, 5.3% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 5.2% from other races, and 3.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.2% of the population.
There were 3,521 households, out of which 34.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 26.7% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,813, and the median income for a family was $45,938. Males had a median income of $32,917 versus $25,917 for females.
