Dewey County Summary
Dewey County is located in the northwestern part of Oklahoma and is part of the Oklahoma Panhandle. The county was created in 1907 and named after Admiral George Dewey, a hero of the Spanish-American War. The county seat is Taloga, and the largest city is Seiling. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,810, making it the second-least populous county in Oklahoma.

Dewey County covers an area of 1,092 square miles and is bordered by Woodward County to the north, Major County to the east, Blaine County to the south, and Ellis County, Kansas to the west. The median age in the county was 43.3 years. 24.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21.3% were from 25 to 44; 28.2% were from 45 to 64; and 19.6% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the county was 49.2% male and 50.8% female.
