Bridgeport Summary

Bridgeport is a small town located in the southwestern corner of Oklahoma, in the county of Jackson. It is situated on the banks of the Red River, and is bordered by Texas to the south and west. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is part of the Lawton-Fort Sill Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Bridgeport was originally inhabited by the Comanche and Kiowa Native American tribes. The first white settlers arrived in the area in the late 1800s, and the town was officially established in 1901. The town was named after the nearby bridge that crossed the Red River.
The town grew rapidly in the early 1900s, and by 1910, it had a population of over 500 people. The town was home to several businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a general store, and a post office.
In the 1920s, the town experienced a period of economic growth, as the oil industry began to boom in the area. The town was home to several oil companies, and the population grew to over 1,000 people.
