Gifford Summary
Gifford is a small town located in the state of South Carolina, United States. It is situated in the county of Berkeley, and is part of the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is located about 20 miles northwest of Charleston.
History
Gifford was founded in 1891 by the Reverend William Gifford, a Methodist minister from North Carolina. He purchased a large tract of land in the area and established a small settlement. The town was named after him, and the first post office was established in 1892.
The town grew slowly over the years, and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving agricultural community. Cotton was the main crop grown in the area, and the town was home to several cotton gins and other businesses related to the industry.
