Winthrop, Iowa is a small town located in Buchanan County, Iowa. It is situated on the banks of the Wapsipinicon River, about 10 miles south of Waterloo. The town was founded in 1854 and was named after Robert Winthrop, a prominent Boston politician. The population of Winthrop was 1,072 at the 2010 census.

Winthrop is located at 42°27'25" North, 92°17'45" West (42.456944, -92.295833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Winthrop is a small rural community with a population of 1,072. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a bank. The town also has a post office, a library, and a fire station. The town is also home to a number of churches, including the United Methodist Church, the Catholic Church, and the Lutheran Church.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,072 people, 441 households, and 287 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,346.3 people per square mile (520.2/km2).
