Rome, Iowa is a small city located in Floyd County, Iowa, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Cedar River, and is part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Rome was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
Rome was founded in 1851 by a group of settlers from Rome, New York. The town was named after the city in Italy, and was originally known as Rome Station. The town was incorporated in 1872.
Rome was a major stop on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, and was a major hub for the area's agricultural industry. The town was also home to a number of manufacturing businesses, including a flour mill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.
Geography
Rome is located at 42°7′17″N 92°17′17″W (42.1214, -92.2881). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Rome's economy is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The town is home to a number of agricultural businesses, including a feed mill, a grain elevator, and a dairy. The town is also home to a number of manufacturing businesses, including a furniture factory, a brickyard, and a flour mill.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (593.7/km2).
