Riverdale Summary

Riverdale, Iowa is a small city located in Scott County, Iowa, United States. It is part of the Davenport-Moline-Rock Island Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,945 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Riverdale was first settled in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York. The settlement was originally known as "New York Settlement" and was located near the present-day intersection of Riverdale Road and Jersey Ridge Road. In 1845, the settlement was renamed "Riverdale" after the nearby river.
In 1853, the first post office was established in Riverdale. The first school was built in 1856 and the first church was built in 1858.
