Remsen is a city located in Plymouth County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,945 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Plymouth County.

History

Remsen was founded in 1876 by a group of German immigrants led by Father Francis Xavier Pierz. The city was named after the German city of Remscheid. The first settlers arrived in the area in 1856 and the first post office was established in 1858. The city was incorporated in 1881.

Remsen is a small rural community with a strong agricultural base. The city is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a pharmacy, and a variety of restaurants. The city also has a small industrial park.
