Newhall Summary

Newhall is a small city located in Benton County, Iowa, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Cedar River, approximately 20 miles north of Cedar Rapids. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Newhall was founded in 1855 by a group of settlers from New York. The town was named after Newhall, New York, the hometown of the settlers. The first post office was established in 1856.
In 1868, the Cedar Rapids and Missouri River Railroad was built through Newhall, connecting the town to Cedar Rapids and other nearby towns. This allowed for the growth of the town, and by 1880, the population had grown to over 500.
In the early 1900s, Newhall was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several grain elevators, a creamery, a flour mill, and a lumber yard. The town also had a variety of stores, including a hardware store, a drug store, and a grocery store.

Newhall is located at 42°7′17″N 91°45′17″W (42.1214, -91.7547). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Newhall’s economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, a feed mill, and a fertilizer plant. The town also has a variety of small businesses, including a hardware store, a grocery store, and a restaurant.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (595.2/km2).
