Morrison Summary

Morrison is a small city located in Clayton County, Iowa, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dubuque, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Morrison was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The town was named after a local landowner, William Morrison. The first post office was established in 1855.

In the late 19th century, Morrison was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a sawmill.

The economy of Morrison is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, as well as a few small businesses.

As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 213 households, and 145 families residing in the city. The population density was 891.7 people per square mile (344.7/km2). There were 229 housing units at an average density of 377.5 per square mile (145.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 213 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
