History

Middletown was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was originally named “Middleton”, but the name was changed to Middletown in 1856. The town was incorporated in 1858, and the first post office was established in 1859.
The town grew slowly, but steadily, and by the turn of the century, it had a population of over 500 people. The town was home to a variety of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, a bank, and a newspaper.
In the early 1900s, the town was connected to the outside world by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. This allowed for the shipment of goods and services to and from the town, and helped to spur economic growth.

Middletown is located in the southeastern corner of Iowa, in Appanoose County. It is situated on the banks of the Chariton River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The town is located approximately 30 miles south of Des Moines, and is about a two-hour drive from the state capital.
The town is located in a humid continental climate zone, with hot summers and cold winters. The average annual temperature is around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average annual precipitation is around 36 inches.

Economy

Middletown’s economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, and the surrounding area is used for growing corn, soybeans, and other crops. The town is also home to a few small businesses, including a general store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
The town is also home to a few manufacturing companies, including a furniture factory and a plastics factory. These companies provide jobs for many of the town’s residents.
