McCausland Summary

Mccausland is a small city located in Scott County, Iowa, United States. It is situated along the Mississippi River, approximately 10 miles south of Davenport. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Mccausland was founded in 1854 by William Mccausland, a Scottish immigrant. He purchased the land from the government and began to develop the area. The town was originally called Mccauslandville, but the name was changed to Mccausland in 1856.
The town grew slowly but steadily over the years, and by the early 1900s it had become a thriving community. The town was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a sawmill.
In the early 1900s, the town was also home to a large number of immigrants from Germany, Ireland, and other European countries. These immigrants helped to shape the culture and economy of the town.

Geography

Mccausland is located at 41°30'25" North, 90°37'45" West (41.506944, -90.629167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Mccausland’s economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, which produce corn, soybeans, and other crops. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 294 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,541.4 people per square mile (595.2/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 667.1 per square mile (257.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
