Marengo, Iowa is a small city located in Iowa County, Iowa, United States. It is situated along the Iowa River, approximately 30 miles southwest of Cedar Rapids. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Marengo was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the Battle of Marengo, which was fought in 1800 during the French Revolutionary Wars. The town was incorporated in 1855.
Marengo was a major stop on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, which ran through the town from 1854 to 1980. The railroad was a major factor in the growth of the town, as it allowed for the transportation of goods and people.

Geography

Marengo is located at 41°37'25" North, 92°2'25" West (41.623, -92.040). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.
