Lockridge Summary

Lockridge is a small town located in Jefferson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fairfield Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Lockridge was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the Lockridge family, who were among the first settlers. The town was incorporated in 1871.
In the late 19th century, Lockridge was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a bank.

Geography

Lockridge is located at 41°2′17″N 91°51′17″W (41.038, -91.854). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Lockridge is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, as well as a few small businesses. The town also has a post office and a bank.

There were 229 housing units at an average density of 382.5 per square mile (147.7/km2).
